The idea of the Group was first conceived during 1991 as the new owners of the Castle -the couple de Anzizu-Roberts- declared their intention to rehabilitate its historic spaces and promote open, cultural activities as well as the knowledge of this monument declared of "cultural interest". Several citizens of the village of Castellterçol suggested forming a group in order to collaborate in this task.

Josep M. de Anzizu and Isidre Clapers started to study this possibility and discussed the idea with Mossen Antoni Pladevall, who had experience of similar cases in other parts of Catalonia. They also contacted the catalan delegation of the Spanish Association "Friends of the Castles".

As a result of these exchanges, the group "Friends of the Castle of Castellterçol" was formed as a Local Group of the above mentioned entity, that coordinates and make public all information referring tocastles. Paying an annual fee entitled all members of the group to take part in its activities.

The local group wants to organise events and excursions, promote projects to improve the historical part of the castle, help in obtaining public funds and, generally speaking, contribute to the knowledge and maintenance of the castle of Castellterçol.

SUMMARY OF THE FIRST MEETING (September 19, 1992)

"The meeting took place at the Castle on occasion of the Concert given by the Junior Orchestra of Caldes de Montbui.

Approximateoly twenty persons attended the meeting, some of whom had already declared their interest in forming part of the group. The President of the Catalan Association of Castle Owners, Mr Josep Lluis Vives, was also present.

Jose M. de Anzizu and Isidre Clapers explained their preliminary ideas and the objectives of the group that should be legally established as a local branch of the catalan delegation of "Friends of the Castles". The purpose was to let people know about the history of the castle, to help in the conservation and rehabilitation tasks, to organise cultural events, to find a place for a Museum etc. All this taking into account the private use of the residence.

At the same time,it was foreseen to visit other castles beginning with those of Montsonís and Montclar, near Artesa de Segre. They have been, together with the castle of Castellterçol, the first privately own catalan castles that have accepted the project of the Generalitat (Catalan Government) to open their doors to the public, under certain conditions.

The attendants commented these and other aspects related to the main idea and emphasized that the Group should be open to all residents, summer visitors and all people that love Castellterçol. The annual fee was established at 500 ptas per family/year.

Jaume Rognoni, resident in the nearby village of Sant Quirze de Safaja, accepted to act as Secretary of the group with the collaboration of Isidre Clapers and Jose M. de Anzizu".

At this moment (beginning of 2004) there are about one hundred families that are members of the group. The fee is 12 euros per year/family.
