The Castle of Castellterçol, also known as the Castle of St Michael, is a monument that has been declared of "historical and cultural interest". The first written document in which the castle is mentioned is from the year 898.

The historical site includes the tower and walls (XII to XIV centuries) and the residences of the farmers and visitors (fom the XVI century).

The castle is located at the limits of a property of 40 hectars, at 725 meters of altitude, just ten minutes away from the town of Castellterçol. The property includes 30 hectars of forest and the rest is devoted to the cultivation of ornamental shrubs. It is a quiet and peaceful place.

The use of the building is mixed: farmhouse, historical areas opened to the public and summer residence. The public areas include the main tower (now under excavations controled by the Catalan Government) and its surroundings, where some cultural events are held every summer. There is a Museum with historical descriptions and samples of the objects found in the course of the excavations.

The apartment that is now devoted to rural tourism has been, until quite recently, the summer residence of the owners of the castle. It has a sufficient degree of confort. There is central heating.

The apartment includes two living rooms, a dining room, three double and one single bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen. To reservation: www.ruralverd.com.

The public that is most attracted by the castle is one who appreciates the value of an historical monument located in a nice, peaceful area and who seeks the peace of the countryside.

A number of cultural, tourist and sport activities can be enjoyed in Castellterçol: municipal swimming pool and sports center, a rustic golf, mountain bicycle routes, walking excursions, good restaurants etc. It is centrally located for one-day trips to other parts of Catalonia (Costa Brava, Pyrenees, Barcelona, Montserrat etc.)

Castellterçol has approximately two thousand inhabitants, a high socio-cultural level and a dry, cool and healthy climate. It is where Enric Prat de la Riba, the first President of the renovated Catalan Government (Generalitat) was born and died.
